Social Pottery Term 4/24. Dec 4

Social Pottery Term 4/24. Dec 4

The best part of Social Pottery is being part of a community that loves clay! You will meet many other potters of all skill levels. We love seeing you create and help each other. Sessions are run by a group of enthusiastic volunteers with some pottery experience - they are familiar with the space and its available equipment and tools to share. Although our volunteers are a helpful bunch they are not there in a teaching capacity. While having muddy fun we ask attendees to consider/follow the advice given and guidelines below:

Day: Every Wednesday during the school term

Time: 7 - 9.00.

Where: Sumner Hub - 57 Nayland (The old police station - side gate)

No payment is needed to book in for Social Pottery. You need to book each week. Bookings open on a Thursday.

Please bring your $5 Koha donation on the day. While it is likely that you can pop in, we do ask that you book online so we can adjust for numbers.

NB# Visit the website for further info about how SP works before booking a spot.

What we provide:

We provide the opportunity to purchase clay and fire your clay pieces as a way of raising funds to pay for our Koha only workshops.

This facility is offered to those that attend classes with artatsumnerhub or come to social pottery. Work will only be fired if made at Social Pottery not off site.

Glazes must be the same as Art At Sumner Hub uses (these have been tested on the clays we use).

We do not sell glazes. You can purchase Abbots Glazes and Underglazes and slips from General Pottery.

All glazes/slips/underglazes must fire to 1220 degrees.

Clays for sale:

Purchases of clay can only take place if you have emailed your request and we have the clay you require in stock. Arrive 6.45 to Social Pottery. Strictly cash only.

Firings:

In order to fit in with our firing schedule you must pre-arrange the drop off of your pieces by email. We do not have any storage facility to keep your work on a shelf.

All work must be fully dried (greenware) and packed for travel before you bring them to a social pottery evening.

Minimum charge $2 per item for firings. Items will be weighed and you will be told the cost for firings when you bring your fully dried greenware items in.

We bisque to 980 degrees and gloss fire to 1220 degrees.

What to bring:

  • Clay - this must be purchased from AASH
  • Cloth to roll out clay on - heavy cloth place mats are ideal or buy some heavy un primed canvas from Gordon Harris. They sell it on a roll. Stitch the edges to stop it from fraying
